Easy Marks, Often Lost
English Core looks like the simplest paper on a commerce student’s timetable, which is exactly why it gets neglected. Students who score in the high 90s in Accountancy often drop marks in English because of a missing format element in a notice, a letter that runs over the word limit, or literature answers that retell the story instead of answering the question.
These are fixable habits. Our English Core coaching makes them part of routine practice from the start of the year.
What We Cover
Reading skills
- Unseen passages: factual, discursive and literary
- Case-based and data-based passages
- Answering inference questions in your own words, not lifted lines
Writing skills
- Notice and classified-style short pieces
- Formal invitations and replies
- Letters: job applications, letters to the editor and other formal letters
- Article and report writing
- Format, word limits and the “content, expression, organisation” marking criteria CBSE examiners use
Literature
- Class 11: Hornbill and Snapshots
- Class 12: Flamingo (prose and poetry) and Vistas
- Theme, character and extract-based questions, value-based long answers, and how to quote and refer to the text
How the Classes Run
- Write every week. Each writing format is taught, then practised, then marked against the CBSE scheme, with feedback on content and expression.
- Chapter summaries plus question practice. Literature is covered chapter by chapter with the questions that are most often asked.
- Sample papers and past papers under timed conditions before the board exams.
- Small batches of no more than fifteen, so every answer sheet is read.
Part of a Complete Commerce Plan
Most of our English Core students also study Accountancy, Economics or Business Studies with us. Planning all subjects together helps students divide revision time sensibly before the boards. See our Class 11 & 12 Commerce tuition for the full programme.
